چکیده

This paper explores the possibility of developing early warning indicators based on incident investigation. The use of early warning indicators may contribute to ensure that oil companies produce oil and gas without harmful spills. The incident investigated was a hydraulic oil leak from the Eirik Raude drilling rig during exploration drilling in the Barents Sea in April 2005. The incident is analyzed using influence diagrams, from which seven general barriers against hydraulic leaks have been identified. For each barrier both checkpoints and indicators have been developed, which provide information about the status of the barriers and early warning of potential spills. The work described in this paper has shown that it is possible to develop early warning indicators based on incident investigation. Several of the proposed checkpoints/indicators may have prevented the oil leak at Eirik Raude, if they had been in use prior to the incident.

Remote Operation in Environmentally Sensitive Areas; Development of Early Warning Indicators

Exploration and production of oil and gas in certain sensitive areas such as the Barents Sea and Lofoten, is controversial and further expansion depends on the ability to avoid harmful spills. One way of improving the ability to avoid such spills is to use early warning indicators. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to describe and compare strengths and weaknesses of different...

Identification of key performance indicators for on-farm animal welfare incidents: possible tools for early warning and prevention

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to describe aspects of case study herds investigated by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAFF) in which animal welfare incidents occurred and to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) that can be monitored to enhance the Early Warning System (EWS). Despite an EWS being in place for a number of years, animal welfare incidents conti...

Design and Development of Early Warning System for Desertification and Land Degradation

Early warning systems are key components of strategies to reduce risk. This research, by adopting a systematic approach in the management of the risk of desertification and by including previously developed models and systems, offers an integrated efficient structure in terms of early warning for the risk of desertification as a pilot system for semi-arid areas of west Golestan Province in IRAN...

School disengagement as a predictor of dropout, delinquency, and problem substance use during adolescence and early adulthood.

Over the past 5 years, a great deal of attention has been paid to the development of early warning systems for dropout prevention. These warning systems use a set of indicators based on official school records to identify youth at risk for dropout and then appropriately target intervention. The current study builds on this work by assessing the extent to which a school disengagement warning ind...

A Study of Risk Evaluation and Early Warning Model Based on Grey System Theory

By introducing the theory of system safety science, and applying the gray theory prediction method, this paper aims at analysing the major hazards of spontaneous combustion of coal, and divided the impact indicators system into three categories, namely; static indicator, dynamic indicator, and intensive monitoring indicator. The static class indicator determined the hazard class by using risk e...
